Henry Cavendish and Inflammable Air

In 1766, the British scientist Henry Cavendish became the first person to recognize hydrogen as a unique and specific gas. By reacting metals like zinc or iron with various acids, he successfully captured what he initially called "inflammable air." Cavendish was a meticulous researcher who carefully measured the density of this gas and realized it was significantly lighter than the common air we breathe. Although he initially believed he had discovered a substance related to the outdated theory of phlogiston, his precise observations provided the foundational data needed for future researchers.
