Unlike material wealth, time is a finite resource that is distributed equally in terms of the hours in a day, but unequally in how it is experienced. In any essay on time, one must recognize that while everyone receives twenty-four hours, the quality and utility of those hours vary based on individual circumstances and societal structures. Time is the most valuable currency we possess because, unlike money, it can never be earned back once it has been spent.

When examining social issues, the concept of "time poverty" emerges as a significant barrier to equality. While time itself is impartial, the ability to manage it is often a luxury. Individuals living in poverty often spend vast amounts of time on basic survival tasks, such as long commutes on public transit or working multiple low-wage jobs.
