One of the primary reasons why homework should be banned is the negative impact it has on student mental health. High school students often face hours of extra work after a full day of classes, leaving little time for physical activity, hobbies, or rest. This constant pressure creates a cycle of stress and sleep deprivation that can lead to long term anxiety. When children are overworked, they frequently lose interest in the subjects they once enjoyed. By removing the burden of homework, schools allow students to recharge, which ultimately leads to better focus and engagement during actual school hours.

Beyond personal health, the practice of assigning homework highlights deep-seated social issues regarding equity. Not every student has a quiet place to study or a parent who can help with complex algebra. Students from wealthier families often have access to private tutors and high-speed internet, while those from lower-income households may have to work jobs or care for siblings. This creates an unfair playing field where grades are influenced more by a student's home environment than by their actual academic ability. If schools truly want to promote fairness, they must ensure that all essential learning happens within the classroom where teachers can provide equal support to everyone.
