For much of my academic life, I viewed stress as a binary state: either I was calm and succeeding, or I was stressed and failing. I perceived stress as an external intruder, a shadow that crept into my room during finals week or before a major presentation. It felt like a heavy, suffocating blanket that dampened my creativity and clouded my judgment. However, through a series of personal challenges and a deeper exploration of psychological principles, my perspective has undergone a significant transformation. I have come to realize that stress is not an enemy to be defeated, but a complex internal signal that, when understood, can serve as a catalyst for profound personal growth.

In my early years of university, the physical manifestations of stress were something I tried to ignore. I treated the tension in my shoulders, the persistent headaches, and the restless nights as mere inconveniences to be medicated or pushed aside. I believed that acknowledging these symptoms was a sign of weakness. This internal narrative was rooted in the "grind culture" that permeates modern education, where the level of one’s exhaustion is often used as a metric for one’s dedication. By ignoring the physiological warnings, I was essentially ignoring my body’s primary method of communication. I failed to see that my nervous system was attempting to protect me, preparing me for a "fight or flight" response to perceived threats that were, in reality, just deadlines and social pressures.
