The architecture of the internet provides a veil of anonymity that frequently emboldens perpetrators. This digital distance allows for various malicious tactics, including doxxing, where a victim's private information is leaked, and impersonation, where bullies create fake profiles to ruin a peer's reputation. Furthermore, platform design often prioritizes engagement over safety; algorithms can inadvertently amplify negative content, while "exclusion" from private groups serves as a potent tool for social isolation. Because the bully does not witness the immediate physical reaction of the victim, the psychological barrier to cruelty is significantly lowered.
