Strongest points
- The free tier gives enough value to meaningfully test the product.
- Premium is relatively affordable compared with the breadth of tools included.
- Pause options soften the usual subscription friction.
Biggest watch-outs
- Refunds are limited and app-store purchases have separate handling.
- Annual billing can make the upfront price feel bigger than the monthly headline suggests.
- Essay-only users may be paying for bundles they do not need.
Trust and evidence
What we checked, and how recently
Direct testing, official product claims, pricing/policy checks, and public sentiment are kept as separate evidence layers so the page is easier to audit and easier to cite precisely.
Testing status
Docs and source verified
This page uses official documentation, pricing or policy pages, and public sentiment. Hands-on notes are only claimed when the ledger includes them.
Official sources
12 checked
Official docs, pricing, policy, product, or help-center pages, separated from user sentiment.
Sentiment layer
4 sources
Third-party and community feedback is read as a signal, not as proof of product capability.
Latest source check

Dates stay visible so pricing, feature, and policy claims can be rechecked instead of drifting silently.
Freshness
Pricing and billing claims are checked weekly because the free tier, annual Premium framing, and pause/cancel mechanics materially affect trust.

Recurring update queue
Pricing and feature claims stay on a recurring maintenance queue so this cluster can be rechecked when plans, limits, or public documentation change.

Methodology. This page uses QuillBot’s pricing page, help-center billing documents, privacy updates, and public sentiment around subscriptions and trust.
Disclosure. EssayGenius is our product. We keep the commercial overlap explicit and treat pricing as a workflow-fit question, not a sticker-price contest.
Plans
How the public plan structure reads
| Question | Take |
|---|---|
| Is there a free tier? | Yes. Free remains surprisingly usable, with paraphrasing, AI Chat, and some originality features available at limited levels. |
| What does Premium unlock? | Unlimited paraphrasing, 9 built-in modes, custom modes, plagiarism checking up to 25,000 words/month, unlimited humanizer usage, 6,000-word summaries, unlimited AI Chat, and better Flow storage. |
| What should you notice about the price? | The accessed pricing page framed Premium as an annual subscription and localized the currency, so confirm the checkout total in your country before treating the monthly-looking rate as the real cost. |
Value
When the price feels justified
QuillBot feels easiest to justify when the user wants a rewrite toolkit they can use all the time. The free tier is already useful, and Premium adds enough utility for people who repeatedly clean up prose, check originality, and bounce between apps.
The value case weakens when the user mainly wants help with essays. QuillBot does not become a better essay tool just because the bundle is cheaper. It becomes a cheaper bundle, which is not the same thing.
Caveats
Billing caveats worth checking before you subscribe
Do not assume there is a free trial.
The public materials emphasize the standing Free plan more than a separate trial mechanic.
Read the refund policy carefully.
Refunds are limited, with app-store purchases routed through Apple or Google and EEA/UK withdrawal rules handled separately.
Consider pausing before canceling.
QuillBot offers pause options, which can be more useful than a hard cancel if you only need the tool in bursts.
Positioning
Where EssayGenius can feel like the cleaner value
| If your priority is... | Better fit |
|---|---|
| Cheap rewrite utility across many apps | QuillBot |
| An essay workflow from outline to revision | EssayGenius |
| Reducing billing anxiety with a narrower academic story | EssayGenius |
The cheaper tool is not automatically the better value when the job is structurally different.
