Account & billing
Billing and invoices
Billing controls live in Settings under Plan & billing. That is where paid accounts manage payment details, open the Stripe billing portal, change cadence when that option is available, cancel at period end, pause or resume when offered, and reactivate before access lapses.
Need account help?
Open account help so the assistant can check account-specific billing options or send the case to the team.
Open account helpBilling cadence
Pro can be billed monthly, as a 4-month Semester Pass, or annually. Card is collected at checkout, the first charge is processed when you complete checkout, and the subscription renews automatically until you cancel from billing settings.
What the Billing section shows
- Your current plan and billing cadence
- The next billing date or end-of-access date if you already canceled
- A path to manage payment method and open Stripe's billing portal for invoice history
- Invoice and receipt history inside Stripe's billing portal, including historical invoices for some previously paid free accounts
Canceling or reactivating
Canceling does not immediately delete essays or shut the account down. You keep access until the current paid period ends, then the account falls back to the free limits. If you change your mind before that date, Billing can reactivate the subscription.
Refunds and past-due payments
If a payment is past due, Plan & billing may show the amount, next retry date, and a hosted invoice link when Stripe provides one. For account-specific billing questions, open account help. When you specifically ask about a refund or charge reversal, the assistant can check whether the latest payment has an automatic option; money moves only after you explicitly confirm. If an automatic option is not available or cannot be previewed, send the case to the team.
Invoices and payment method
Payment method updates and invoice history are handled through the billing portal linked from Settings. Free accounts that never had a billing account usually see the upgrade path instead. Free accounts with past paid history may still be able to open Stripe for old invoices.
If something looks wrong: open Plan & billing first so you can verify the plan and cadence. Use the billing portal from there to check invoice history. If the help articles still do not explain what you are seeing, use the in-app help flow to send the case to the team without leaving the product.
